Between the blog and the twit is the posterous one

Wakey wakey! Looking northwest from my 18th floor Chicago hotel room; and...

...planning out my day. I think I will walk north so many blocks for a few #ali presentations, then take off for an architectural boat tour and use my raincheck to see the Sears Tower skydeck. Eat lunch and dinner somewhere in there but take off by 630 to head to the airport for a 9pm flight back to Boston. Stay tuned for pics and updates for both you and my diary purposes...

My final night in Chicago is on the 18th floor of the Hilton Garden Inn for $100, thanks to...

...Priceline's 'Name Your Own Price' function. Smack-dab in the heart of the Magnificent Mile. If 715pm is any indication of post-dusk lights and tomorrow's sunrise, man it is nice!

Waving hands for Gaelic Storm performing at Chicago's Grant Park, but...

...those hands aren't waving. Rather, the band asked everyone on my side to raise cellphones at particular lines. Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry

Gazing toward Chicago's Navy Pier. Can you say touristy?

Where else would a ferris wheel and tethered balloon be?

This is the view steps from where I shall stay for two nights. I'm heading in that direction -- but serendipity and lunch will dictate where I wind up. See, when I visit new places, I care less about what tourists "do" and more what its residents do. And my take is most residents spend Sundays people watching, relaxing, and engaging in cultural heritage. Maybe I'll find a museum to relax...

Amtrak wore me out. I have no energy to cry. Or I would. Here's why...

I needed dollar bills for the locker machine, didn't have enough, so found a Fifty Third Bank ATM next to track 10 in Union Station. I then got change from a $20 at a store.

I deposited the money and headed out to walk. I was two blocks from the Sears (now Willis) Tower and followed the crowd to the skydeck. I was steps away from entering a 9-minute movie before going up...when I opened my wallet out of the blue and...noticed my credit card, the one I used in the ATM, was not there. Not in my pockets either. Logic told me where it was.

I got a raincheck for the Tower, and rushed back to the ATM. I talked to Amtrak Police; he said call the bank. I googled for the number at 53.com and Shawnee said it was destroyed as I am not their customer. Smart destroyer. Sigh. I called my bank, Sovereign, which doesn't have a Chicago branch. Laquita felt sorry but couldn't do anything. We chatted options and I told her to cancel the card. A new one will arrive in 5-7 days. Luckily I withdrew cash just before. Luckily my 2nd credit card has some spare money I think. Luckily I carry a blank check so maybe I can use the routing number and wire by phone money to my 2nd card. Luckily my hotels and transportation was prepaid. I can't do anything else now, so will find a restaurant for lunch, have a beer, and head to the hotel for an early check-in. It is down by Midway so my night is already known. I will sleep early and gain energy for Sunday sightseeing. It could be worse. Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry
